Chuck Leaver – The Security Fabric Created A Buzz At 2017 Fortinet Accelerate

Written By Josh Applebaum And Presented By Ziften CEO Chuck Leaver

The Fortinet Accelerate 2017 conference was held just recently in Las Vegas. Ziften has sponsored Fortinet’s yearly Global Partner Conference for the second time, and it was a pleasure to be there! The energy at the show was noticeable, and this was not due to the energy drinks you always see people carting around in Las Vegas. The buzz and energy was contributed by an essential theme the entire week: the Fortinet Security Fabric.

The theme of Fortinet’s Security Fabric is simple: take the diverse security “point items” that a company has deployed, and link them to leverage the deep intelligence each product has in their own security vault to offer a combined end-to-end security blanket over the whole company. Though Fortinet is normally considered a network security company, their technique to supplying a total security service spans beyond the conventional network to consist of endpoints, IoT devices, as well as the cloud. By exposing APIs to the Fabric-Ready partners along with enabling the exchange of actionable hazard intelligence, Fortinet is creating a path for a more collective strategy across the entire security industry.

It is revitalizing to see that Fortinet has the exact same beliefs as we have at Ziften, which is that the only manner in which we as a market are going to reach (and exceed) the attackers is through integration and partnership across all reaches of security, no matter which supplier offers each element of the general service. This is not a problem we are going to solve on our own, however rather one that will be resolved through a combined approach like the one set out by Fortinet with their Security Fabric. Ziften is proud to be a founding member of Fortinet’s Fabric Ready Alliance program, combining our special approach to endpoint security with Fortinet’s “believe different” mindset of exactly what it implies to incorporate and team up.

Throughout the week, Fortinet’s (very passionate) channel partners had the opportunity to walk the show floor to see the incorporated solutions offered by the different technology partners. Ziften showcased their integrations with Fortinet, containing the integration of our solution with Fortinet’s FortiSandbox.

The Ziften service gathers unidentified files from endpoints (clients or servers running Windows, OS X, or Linux) and sends them to the FortiSandbox for detonation and analysis. Outcomes are instantly fed back into Ziften for signaling, reporting, and (if enabled) automated mitigation actions.

It was interesting to see that the Fortinet channel partners plainly got the value of a Security Fabric technique. It was clear to them, along with Ziften, that the Security Fabric is not a marketing gimmick, however rather a genuine strategy put together by, and led by, Fortinet. While this is just the beginning of Fortinet’s Security Fabric story, Ziften is thrilled to collaborate with Fortinet and enjoy the story continue to unfold!
